The moon is not your friend. Unless you want friends who are low vibe, drag you down and generally wreak havoc in your life. Until a few years ago, I was like most people who believed that a full moon was a potent time to manifest, charge crystals and enjoy healing experiences. It wasn’t until I connected with it on a deeper level through Reiki that I realized it was, well… bad bloody juju. She is such a cheeky, deceptive little minx, lemme tell you…
I have always been a star gazer and on one particular clear night the moon and stars were looking absolutely magical. This wasn’t long after I received my Usui Level 2 and I was experimenting with sending Reiki over long distances. That night I suddenly had the wild idea to go out on my porch and send Reiki to the moon. I used CKR and HSZSN, and sent loving intentions with an open heart. I was shocked when I immediately got hit with a surge of energy straight into my chest that left me in an absolute panic. My body was accosted with an energy I could only describe as static distortion that left me anxious, shaking and bewildered. A heavy weight settled into my chest that lasted for weeks.
If there is one thing I know to be true it is that frequency never lies and I knew in my gut I had tapped into an aspect of the moon that was doing more harm to me than good. So, naturally I started seeking out more info about the moon hoping someone could tell me what the hell had happened and why. I wanted answers. And although I may not have all of them for you here today, you are being invited, my energetically aware friends, to use your own discernment and consider that perhaps the moon is not your BFF.
Now I know there are a lot of theories about the moon not being real. That is not what this post is about. I am simply sharing with you some info that can be, at the very least, food for thought.
The most fascinating fact I found is that the parasites in our body are most active during a full moon. Which is why we can have all sorts of less than stellar physical experiences during this time – the most common one being the inability to get a good nights sleep. I for one am rather restless leading up to and during a full moon. On those nights I sleep with some black tourmaline which acts as a shielding, grounding and purifying agent allowing me sweet dreamless sleep in a historically restless time for me. So, yeah parasites LOVE the moon and they are most definitely throwing a party every time.
What I also found interesting is that hospital emergency rooms and police departments assign more staff around the full moon because all sorts of crazy comes out of the woodwork during this time. This is straight from the mouths of my clients who work in these fields and statistics show an increase in crime and number of incidents with people requiring emergency care.
The physical aspect of the moon is also quite interesting. It acts like no other planet known to man; it doesn’t rotate, possibly hollow (Apollo 12 Lunar Module study) and is so light in density that the fact it is even in our Earth’s orbit is scientifically impossible. Say what?
I understand that without the moon we wouldn’t have ocean tides due to its gravitational pull, so it does serve an important purpose in that way, but if our bodies are 90% water how much “pull” does it have on us?
I also like to note that all the ancient civilizations throughout human history have never worshipped the moon. EVER. Rather many held the sun in complete and utter reverence for its life giving qualities.
After pondering all this for a time I decided to break up with the moon. Now at that point my menses cycle had been in sync with the full moon for a while and was generally believed in the spiritual community to be evidence of my “high vibration” as a “lightworker”. But when I ceremoniously disconnected from the moon and cut all cords and connections, my cycle not only changed in my calendar, but my cramps lessened and my flow became lighter. I also had more energy and my mood swings became noticeably more docile.
So, in case you haven’t guessed it already, I for one will NOT be charging crystals in the moonlight, drinking moon water, holding a Reiki Full Moon Circle (like ever) and I certainly do not use it to help manifest my desires. Now I understand that the majority of the spiritual community and the world at large has a steamy romance going on with the moon (I get it. She is soooo very dreamy.) and that does count for something because if you get enough of the collective consciousness tuning into an idea, that idea can be become a reality on some level simply because so many people are buying into that belief. So, if you manifest like the dickens and enjoy beautiful healings when working with moon energies, I believe those experiences can be valid. But I invite you to consider that the moon is not the purest source of power available when seeking purification, empowerment and guidance. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if the inverted energies I experienced when connecting to the moon all those years ago are actually holding us back from our ascension process. That this whole “moon magic” programming has been intentionally implanted into the collective consciousness to keep us largely disempowered.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in fear of the moon. I just don’t give any power to it. I appreciate it for what it is; an aesthetically pleasing adornment in the sky.
So, in conclusion and in the words of one of my mentors Stephanie Lodge; may you only allow for the purest frequencies, consciousnesses and vibrations of living light, ultimate love and immaculate grace to flow through you and remain within your presence always.
Reiki Love & Blessings,
Willow

Thank you for sharing this. I found it through your comment on Cosmic Collage IG post.
You wrote that none of the ancient civilizations have ever worshipped the moon. I was just curious about ancient women’s circles & other groups of people (perhaps mostly women,) who practiced ancient wisdom and connecting with spirit through the natural world. To my understanding, many of these groups did revere & work with the moon. Is that not the case? What are you thoughts on that as it is *also* considered ancient wisdom 🤍
What about the ancient lunar goddesses such as Selene, Hecate, & Artemis?
Also, the moon does rotate!! It rotates at the same rate as the earth – that is why we always see the same side. You can look up posts & videos that show HOW it rotates & explain it. The idea that the moon does not rotate is largely considered a myth. But of course, anything could be possible!! (If this is a beautiful simulation… who knows!!) Believe what you like.
I am not here to discount your theory & your experience. I think all of the above can be true!
I was intrigued by this as I have a friend who got VIOLENTLY ill while watching a full moon – borderline possessed, and threw up.
Also, as a deeply spiritual person with a profound connection to nature, & as someone who works with and is sensitive to energies (as we all are truly,) I am also wary of attaching too much energy & reverence to any one thing – natural or not. So I was just interested in this conversation.
Do you have any more to share on this subject? Particularly in regards to ancient wisdom working with the moon & the lunar goddesses, and how to use astrology without using the lunar energies. Ya know what I mean?? Can you view the moon as neutral, not give it any power, and still use astrology that takes the moon into consideration??
I’d love to know more!!

Hi Taylor,
I really appreciate you responding to my post and you ask some excellent questions. I am not familiar with those mythological goddesses you mentioned so, I can’t really comment on those other than I know they represent archetypes. As you mentioned, I do recognize that we have a long collective history of women (including many in my lineage) who have worked with the moon for various purposes; healing, manifestation, spell casting, healing etc. But, just because we have always done something doesn’t mean it’s serving us.
Now for a hefty dose of spiritual speculation as I have no hard scientific evidence to support this… If I had to label the energy of the moon based on my personal experience, in simple terms I would liken it to an inverted Divine Feminine and/or a distorted Divine Masculine frequency. I have often wondered if this concept of moon worshipping was intentionally implanted in the female collective consciousness especially to disempower women and help suppress the Divine Feminine aspects of this planet. Which may be one of the reasons we have been seeing a long rule of of toxic, distorted Divine Masculine archetypical energy creating a world of war, suffering and oppression of women.
Thank you for correcting me on the moon’s rotation. It does serve its purpose and without it I don’t know if we would even exist. It governs our tides and it locks the earth in place on just the right angle to make life possible here. So, thank you moon! You aren’t all bad. But I do believe the spiritual community is long suffering a massive misconception of the moon and we are quite overdue for an epic paradigm shift regarding what its actual role is in our lives.
Thank you for sharing this body and curious concept. It’s definitely something I will consider and feel into more. I have always thought of the moon as a powerful source but never in the context of casting negative energy.
