First I need to clarify that the online Reiki classes I am referring to are LIVE, not pre-recorded. My dislike for pre-recorded classes and the disservice they are to both Reiki and the student, are shared in my past post “Are You Receiving the Correct Reiki Training”. I don’t feel it’s necessary to repeat those points here, so, if you are curious, you are welcome to read it after.
So, the question of the hour is; are online classes just as effective as in person classes? Yes! But, there are some differences and I am happy to guide you through the pros and cons of both. It really depends on the level you are taking, and what your goals are. If you only wish to learn Reiki for self-healing and treating friends and family, online is perfectly fine for Level 1, 2 and Master. However, if you are wanting to be a professional Practitioner, in person instruction for the first two levels with a knowledgable and experienced instructor would better support you. This is because Level 1 and 2 online classes do not offer hands-on practice with other students in the class while the teacher guides you in proper hand placements and techniques. That being said, Reiki Level 2 students learn distance healing techniques and online classes provide an excellent opportunity to build experience and confidence sending Reiki across time and space to others. So, if you suspect you will be offering more distance sessions, than in-person (perhaps you live more remotely) or there isn’t a reputable teacher in your area, then perhaps an online class would be best for you.
Now on to the third Master/Teacher level… In Usui/Holy Fire Reiki there is a 6 months waiting period requirement between Level 2 and Master/Teacher. This offers practitioners an opportunity to practice both in person and distance healing techniques as well as develop their Reiki channel and deepen their personal relationship with Reiki for self-healing.
Not everyone who takes the Master Teacher level has a desire to teach or be a professional practitioner. Most want to simply increase their knowledge and empower their Reiki channel. For those who wish to work professionally, in-person classes provide further experience in professional hands-on treatments, however, do not provide the student with an opportunity to experience an online class if they wish to teach online in the future or support their students who will. Besides, by the time you reach the Master/Teacher level, I would assume you have had plenty of experience practicing hands-on treatments in your own time.
For those who question the quality of receiving the Usui/Holy Fire III placements and ignitions (previously called attunements) online, I wrote a post about about that too! It will help you better understand what exactly they are, how they are conducted and why being in person or live online when you receive one makes no difference at all.
I teach all my Usui/Holy Fire III Reiki Level 1 and 2 classes in-person and then move online for the three day Master/Teacher class. Below I have listed a few of the perks of receiving your Master Teacher Certification online:
- No travel time. My students come from all over and driving to and from class every day, three days in a row, can equal many hours on the road. This can be depleting and impede the integration time required after a long day of learning, healing experiences, and empowering activations. And you will be tired after class – in a good way!
- You experience class in the comfort of your own home. Being able to sit in the cozy, safe atmosphere of the space you are most familiar with, means that you are more open and relaxed. With less distractions of being physically around others in a foreign environment, students often report deeper healing experiences and insights.
- It becomes very clear in an online class that you are always connected to the the Usui/Holy Fire energy and it will always, I mean ALWAYS, be there for you when needed regardless of where you are or who is present. This is especially important if you are a practitioner and/or teacher who is coming from a traditional Usui Reiki background and used to the attunement process in your classes. If you are not sure of the difference between the traditional Usui Reiki attunements and Usui/Holy Fire experiences, placements and ignitions, you can read more HERE.
I have been teaching these classes for four years now and I am always overcome with gratitude and awe when the Holy Fire energy shows up for all of us and in a way that is unique to each person. The energy is undeniable, palpable, and always provides loving, nurturing support that is deeply appreciated by all – regardless of whether class is held online or in person.
